Description:

Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Lombok Island, ca. mid-20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden table bowl known as a dulan with a conical pedestal surmounting a flared foot. The circular dish has expanding walls atop the pedestal, a thick rim, and a recessed basin. Hundreds of triangular nacre fragments inlaid along the rim create broad lemniscate motifs with two concentric rings coursing along the basin periphery. The basin center displays the outline of a leaping goat with raised forelegs and a pair of narrow horns and is encircled with concentric rings as well as four bullseye-style circles. Rich chocolate patina has developed across the wooden surfaces and makes this an attractive centerpiece. Size: 18.875" W x 9.1" H (47.9 cm x 23.1 cm)
