New World, Hawaiian Islands, 1950s CE. A vintage Hawaiian Koa wood bowl, hand carved with rounded, incurved walls on a flat base, the wood showing attractive graining and beautiful golden hues. A wonderful deep bowl sitting on an integral circular base, made from wood of the flowering Acacia Koa tree. Interestingly, in the Hawaiian language, the word koa means fearless warrior. Inscription on base reads, "Lei Hawau GENUINE KOA MADE IN HAWAII". Size: 5.875" in diameter x 2.5" H (14.9 cm x 6.4 cm)
