Description:

Native American, San Ildefonso Pueblo, New Mexico, made by Maria Montoya Poveka Martinez (1887-1980) and her daughter-in-law Santana between 1943 and 1954 CE. A gorgeous black-on-black pottery plate with a motif of eight cloud forms radiating from a small central circle. The bowl has a very gentle slope inward and no foot, just a curved base. The base is signed "Marie + Santana," which dates the piece - Maria signed her name Marie during that time period, and she made pottery with her daughter-in-law after the passing of her husband, Julian.
