Description:

North America, Southern United States, Civil War period, ca. 1861 to 1865 CE. A hammered steel bowie side knife of a single-edged design used by Confederate soldiers during the American Civil War. The blade is designed with a thick spine, a smooth body, and a deep curve just above the blade point. The D-shaped brass guard connects via the top and bottom of the blade tang, and in-between is a lathe-turned wooden handle with several protruding ringlets for grip. The blade still retains a rather sharp edge, and fine patina has formed across each component. Size: 4.375" W x 14.5" H (11.1 cm x 36.8 cm); (blade): 9.875" L (25.1 cm)

Provenance: private Glorieta, New Mexico, USA collection, acquired in 2019; ex-Carney Pace collection, Vernal, Utah, USA
