Oceania, Micronesia, Caroline Islands, ca. first half of the 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden model of an outrigger canoe with a lengthy canoe body and a stake-shaped float joined via a trio of slender outrigger booms bound by lengths of twisted thread. A pair of wooden planks are suspended above the outrigger booms and serve as a miniature fishing platform. Wooden boat models were created as a means of optimizing one's design while using minimal materials. Size: 18.25" L x 5.1" W (46.4 cm x 13 cm).

  • Condition: A few lengths of string reinforced with modern adhesive. Minor nicks to canoe body, outrigger booms, and float, with light encrustations within canoe, and fraying to some lengths of thread. Light earthen deposits and nice color throughout.
