Description:

Roman, early Imperial Period, ca. 1st century CE. Perhaps the single tiniest Roman glass vessel we have ever come across, a miniature free-blown glass vessel bearing striking cobalt-blue hues. The vessel features a narrow discoid foot, a slender body ringed with zigzagging rigaree bands, a spiralized neck, and a collared rim, all with a single trail of glass creating a handle that stretches between the body and rim. The nearly microscopic vessel has developed fine areas of rainbow-hued iridescence that nicely complement its aquatic hues. Size: 0.5" W x 0.875" H (1.3 cm x 2.2 cm); 0.9" H (2.3 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Corpus Christi, Texas, USA estate collection, acquired 1960s to 1970s
