Pre-Columbian, Western Mexico, Michoacan, ca. 100 BCE to 300 CE. A polychrome tripod rattle leg vessel, extensively decorated throughout with stylized geometric motifs and linear patterns inspired by textile designs as well as abstract figural entities featuring stepped and angular forms with 'eyes' comprised of concentric circles - all in russet red and chocolate brown on a cream ground. This painstakingly painted decorative program graces nearly every surface, embellishing both the bowl and rattle legs. Impressive artistry and technique!
