Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Michoacan area, Tarascan culture, ca. 1350 to 1521 CE. A greenstone needle, probably made to represent the needles used for ritual and religious bloodletting. Ritual tools were often recreated in sacred greenstone in ancient Mesoamerica and buried in caches or with the deceased. Size: 3.5" L (8.9 cm)

Provenance: ex-private collection of the late Father Bader, University of St. Thomas, Houston, Texas, USA; exhibited in the University of St. Thomas Art Gallery, acquired prior to 2000
