Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Michoacan, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A highly decorative tripod terracotta bowl, the center adorned with a five-pointed star in cream hues against a red roundel. Surrounding the inner rim is a band of stylized geometrics that resemble a Greek key motif painted in red against a cream ground. The bowl sits upon three conical, nubbin feet. The surface is richly covered with root marks and shows wondrous areas of manganese blooms. While the exterior has a simple buff terracotta finish, this makes for a marvelous "canvas" for the intricate root markings that have developed with age. Size: 6.6" W x 2.75" H (16.8 cm x 7 cm)

Provenance: Ex-private Olan collection, California, by family descent, acquired 1960 to 1970.
