Description:

Pre-Columbian, western Mexico, Michoacán, ca. 500 to 200 BCE. A somewhat unusual pottery "Pretty Lady" or Venus figure. Although she probably does not qualify under western standards as a real beauty, perhaps in ancient Mexico, this facial expression might have been quite alluring to some men. Arms at her sides. Nude save long necklace and huge decorated earspools, belly distended probably indicating pregnancy, and perhaps the cause for her discomfort. What sets her apart is that toothy grimace. That is something almost never seen in flats such as this. Size: 4-7/8" H. Provenance: Ex-private P. Samson collection acquired in the 1950's. All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. #109691
