Description:

Pre-Columbian, Western Mexico, Michoacan, ca. 100 BCE to 300 CE.. The Michoacan artisans created this classic vessel design featuring pointed bulbous feet which once held working rattles. Characteristic of the post Chupicuaro era, the burnished surface is so rich, and this example moves beyond monochrome redware. Instead we have a rich polychrome decorative program of red and cream pigments on black ground; the walls and inner rim and feet decorated with stylized geometric and linear motifs. Size: 5-1/4" diameter (13.34 cm.) x 3-1/8"H (7.94 cm.).

Provenance: Ex-private Houston, TX collection acquired at auction or local gallery between 1982 and 1994.
