Description:

Metro Goldwyn Mayer Studios. Pair of production drawings for "Mouse Cleaning" 1948. Two original production drawings from the Tom and Jerry short titled "Mouse Cleaning" (1948) directed by Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera. In the cartoon, Mammy Two-Shoes warns, "The whole house is clean, and, brother, it better stay that way… One spot of dirt in this house when I get back, we're gonna be minus one cat around here!" Of course, the animated short Jerry does his best to trash the house, and a classic Tom and Jerry chase ensues. Size (sight view of each drawing): 8.75" L x 11.25" W (22.2 cm x 28.6 cm) Size (frame): 19.375" L x 35.875" W (49.2 cm x 91.1 cm)

These drawings reference a particularly comical sequence in the kitchen. Jerry juggles a dozen eggs while walking along a string tied between a chair and a towel rack. Then Jerry throws the eggs to the far side of the kitchen, and Tom races to catch and take his stab at juggling them. Next, Jerry tosses a fruit pie in the air. Tom, still juggling the eggs, manages to catch the pie on the tip of a spoon balanced on his nose, but Jerry pulls a rug out from under Tom's feet, the eggs go flying into the air, and Tom desperately dives to catch them. Tom manages to catch the eggs and smiles at his success, but his victorious moment only lasts a matter of seconds, when the fruit pie falls from above and lands on Tom's head.

Inscriptions on the drawings: The numbers "25, 26, 27, 28" perhaps referring to scene numbers are handwritten in pencil on the drawing at the right. In addition, faint notes that are difficult to discern but appear to read "Page / Sep. cell 25 // …" are handwritten on the drawing at the right. The drawing at the left also has notes handwritten in pencil that are difficult to discern but appear to read "TR M / 141 sep. cell 141x / M -141 To 141x".
