Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala, ca. 500 to 100 BCE. A lovely amulet of a circular form carved from iron-rich black stone with faint orange inclusions. The abstract visage is composed of incised features like square eyes, a rounded chin, rectangular lips, and right-angled cheeks, and a pair of biconically-drilled suspension holes is situated near the eyes. Within the incised details are faint traces of red cinnabar which are brought forth nicely against the black-hued stone. Size: 1.75" W x 1.75" H (4.4 cm x 4.4 cm).
