Description:

Pre-Columbian, Guerrero, Mexico, Mezcala, Ca. 400 - 100 BCE. This standing idol is carved from a deep green serpentine cobble with simple, abstract features and a tapered conical head, probably a variant of Type M-22. The Mezcala sculptors brilliantly used string-saw technology to differentiate limbs and facial features, and this particular example displays a high degree of sculptural integrity for the type. These figures are equally appealing for the inherent beauty of the stone selected by the ancients. 2-1/2" (6.5cm) H x 1-1/2" (3.75cm) W x 3/4" (2cm) D.
