Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 500 to 200 BCE. A lovely standing figure of a characteristically abstract presentation, hand-carved from mottled green-grey stone with white and beige inclusions. The figure stands atop fused legs with a vertical delineation cleft, holds bent arms atop the thick abdomen, and has rounded shoulders that taper in to a wide neck. The bulbous head features slit-form eyes and lips, a triangular nose, puffy cheeks, and protruding tab-shaped ears, all beneath a rounded forehead. Mezcala sculptural works are equally appealing for the inherent beauty of the stone as well as the notable deviation from verism. Lucite display stand for photography purposes only. Size: 2.1" W x 5.125" H (5.3 cm x 13 cm).
