Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala, ca 300-100 BCE. Standing human figure string-cut and carved from gray-green andesite inside the basic shape of an axe or celt. Appears to possess characteristics of Mezcala M-6 style - a generally broad, flat face, sloping cheek planes that meet in the center to form a vertical ridge suggesting a nose, a flat temporal-parietal lobe, and forearms indicated by two diagonal grooves slanted upward to the center of the abdomen. 4.75"W (12.07 W cm) Provenance: Ex-Adeon Gallery, Chicago, IL, acquired prior to 1970.
