Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala, ca. 400 to 100 BCE. A quixotic amulet depicting an upright monkey, hand-carved from a mottled dark green stone with beige inclusions. The minimalistic figure sits upon bent legs with its tail extending up its back and with thick arms held tightly to its sides. Its head bears drilled eyes, a nubbin-shaped nose, and petite ears. The linear grooves along the legs, body, tail, and head are all formed via the meticulous string-cutting method, giving this figure an abstract yet expertly-formed presentation. Custom wooden display stand included. Size: 1.375" W x 2.25" H (3.5 cm x 5.7 cm); 2.75" H (7 cm) on included custom stand.
