Description:

Latin America, Mexico, volume entitled "Tarahumaras", copyright 1966. A volume entitled "Tarahumaras" after the Native American people of Barranca de Cobre (Copper Canyon), a southwestern Chihuahua state in northwestern Mexico. The Spaniards forced these peoples (who call themselves Raramuri) from more hospitable lands to reside in a rather severe landscape of deep gorges and canyons, not particularly ideal for agriculture; however, they persevered and managed to become accomplished small-scale farmers. They are also legendary for an ability to run great distances, and their name actually means "those who walk well." The book includes eleven portraits of the indigenous (musicians, leaders, ordinary folks) and various genre and religious scenes by painter and muralist Aaron Pina Mora (Mexican, 1914-2010) with an informative essay by Victor M. Reyes. Size: 17.25" L x 12.625" W (43.8 cm x 32.1 cm)
