Mexico, Spanish Colonial inspired, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A beautiful silver censer (incense burner) vessel intended for a religious context, created in two parts and suspended from three long chains with a confirming rim with suspension loop in the center, the upper cupola-shaped section featuring abstract decoration comprised of stylized leaves adorning the dome, striated frets/tongues with pierced openings for ventilation and additional decoration in the central section, and gracing the lower bulbous section, pointed pinecone like motifs with more perforations for ventilation. The lower urn-shaped section presents a decorative program that continues the striation theme from above, elegantly tracing every curve of the rounded receptacle and pedestal base.
