Description:

Mexico, 1825 CE. This statue of a crucified Christ is almost certainly from the inside of a church. Although he is missing his arms, his body has many details that indicate a fixation on the gruesome corporality of the crucifixion story; this is part of the same artistic tradition in Mexico that brings us events like the Day of the Dead. His body bears stigmata, multiple stab wounds to the ribs, and cuts to the face; blood runs freely from his head where the Crown of Thorns rested, and down his face, chest, and legs. Size: 31" H x 8" W x 6" L.
