Description:

Ancient Near East, Mesopotamia, Sumer, Neo-Sumerian Empire, Third Dynasty of Ur, ca. 2112 to 2004 BCE. A fascinating, hand-carved stone head of a male displaying huge, heavy-lidded eyes, a petite mouth, a pointed chin dotted with stubble, and a sizable pair of high-set ears. His tall forehead rises to a bald crown flanked by petite tufts of hair. The unfinished verso indicates that this piece was likely part of a high relief. Size: 2.3" W x 2.625" H (5.8 cm x 6.7 cm); 4.7" H (11.9 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: East Coast collection, New York Gallery, New York City, New York, USA, acquired before 2010
