Description:

Ancient Near East, Mesopotamia, Sumer, ca. late 3rd to early 2nd millennium BCE. A mold-formed terracotta plaque depicting an intriguing scene of a right-facing male supplicant holding a petite animal, perhaps a goat, as an offering. The man is dressed in a lengthy robe and dons a thick head wrap above his bushy beard while striding barefoot towards the area designated for animal offerings. The Sumerians produced great quantities of terracotta votive plaques like this example that were used by private individual or families in the home. Size: 2.6" W x 4.25" H (6.6 cm x 10.8 cm); 5.25" H (13.3 cm) on included custom stand.
