Ancient Near East, Mesopotamia, ca. 2nd millennium BCE. A hand-carved black stone stamp seal of cylindrical form depicting a charioteer as he is being pulled by 3 rein-lead horses. Each galloping steed races forward while pulling the cart behind it, and its rider is shown grabbing the reins with one hand while raising the other in the air, perhaps in excitement. Size: 1.1" L x 0.45" W x 0.44" H (2.8 cm x 1.1 cm x 1.1 cm)

Provenance: private Corpus Christi, Texas, USA estate collection, acquired 1960s to 1970s
