Ancient Near East, Mesopotamia, Sumer, Early Dynastic IIIb to Akkadian Empire period, ca. 2500 to 2218 BCE. An impressively preserved stone head featuring carefully striated hair with a chignon on the verso - a traditional Sumerian and Akkadian male hairstyle - and a prominent unibrow over huge, almond-shaped eyes. Perhaps representing a young warrior, the beardless visage features a pointed nose and broad lips, all crowned by a headband that wraps around his centrally parted coiffure. Size: 2.2" W x 3" H (5.6 cm x 7.6 cm); 5.5" H (14 cm) on included custom stand.
