Ancient Near East, Mesopotamia, ca. 3rd to 2nd millennium BCE. A fine and petite necklace composed of dozens of hand-carved stone beads in hues of cream, wheat, and russet. Several cylindrical beads boast incised linear motifs and separate groups of spherical, discoid, and rectangular prism beads, each perforated through the midsection for suspension. The teardrop-shaped pendant is carved from a jet-black stone and displays an engraved "II" in the center. A fabulous and wearable example of ancient fashion! Size (necklace): 18.5" L (47 cm); size (pendant): 1.5" H (3.8 cm).

  • Condition: Strung in modern times and wearable as shown, though has no clasp. Stone beads are ancient, and stringing is modern. Small nicks and abrasions to most beads, with darkening to natural color commensurate with age, and light encrustations, otherwise intact and very good Nice earthen deposits throughout.
