Description:

Ancient Near East, Mesopotamia, Jemdet Nasr, ca. 3100 to 2900 BCE. A set of 2 ancient cylinder seals, each hand-carved from lustrous black-hued stone. The first seal features an abstract zoomorphic portrait, perhaps that of an ibex, with large bands spanning between its horns. The larger seal bears an abstract linear motif accented with petite spots, perhaps depicting stars or another astronomical phenomenon. Custom putty rollout of petite seal included. Size of largest: 0.46" W x 1.16" H (1.2 cm x 2.9 cm)

  • Condition: Repair to larger seal, with very small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines; second seal is intact. Each with light abrasions and nicks commensurate with age, with softening to some incised details, otherwise in great condition.
