Ancient Near East, Mesopotamia, Early Dynastic Period, ca. 3100 to 2900 BCE. A hand-carved steatite cylinder seal of dark gray and black hues with a central perforation for suspension. Inscribed around the diameter are 2 intricate linear and geometric brocade that resemble boats and perhaps sea monsters. Modern putty impression included. Size: 0.6" W x 0.69" H (1.5 cm x 1.8 cm)

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-Brooklyn, New York, USA collection, acquired from Mark Breitsprecher Classical Numismatist in the 2000s
