Description:

Ancient Near East, Mesopotamia, Babylon, Old Babylonian Period, ca. 1900 to 1700 BCE. A hand-built clay tablet of a rectangular form with a gently convex obverse face. The front of the tablet contains 13 lines of inscribed cuneiform text that is formed by impressing a sharpened reed or stick into the still-wet clay, and the verso is smooth and slightly rounded. Though not fully translated, this tablet contains a letter dealing with cattle. Lucite display stand for photography purposes only. Size: 2.1" W x 3.9" H (5.3 cm x 9.9 cm).

  • Provenance: Repaired from multiple pieces, with small losses and light adhesive residue along break lines. Abrasions and encrustations across both faces and minor softening to some cuneiform characters. Light earthen deposits throughout.
