Ancient Near East, Mesopotamia, Sumer, ca. 2500 to 1500 BCE. A fascinating figural fragment of a man's torso carved bent at the waist, raising one leg made of black steatite. Possibly a kneeling worshipper or a warrior. Nice details to ornamentation which include the waist cloth band, a heavy braided pendant necklace with carefully incised concentric circles, perhaps once inlaid. Size: 2" L x 1.75" W (5.1 cm x 4.4 cm)
