Description:

Ancient Near East, Mesopotamia, ca. 3rd to 2nd millennium BCE. A fine stamp seal carved from banded agate of lovely vermilion and citrine hues. The ovoid seal has a rounded sides and a smooth verso, with an intricate image incised on the front. The obverse face displays a wondrous scene of a fearsome lion leaping onto the back of a fleeing ibex, however the protruding ribs of the lion indicates this act is less about aggression and more about hunger and survival. An intricate zoomorphic example from ancient Mesopotamia! Custom putty impression included. Size: 1.25" L x 0.9" W (3.2 cm x 2.3 cm).
