Description:

Pre-Columbian, southern Mexico and Guatemala, Maya Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A tall, thin cylinder vessel with glyphs and a depiction of standing figures around its body. Each figure depicted wears an enormous feathered headdress and the theme of the vessel seems to be feasting or at least food preparation, with many of the people holding bowls, standing near large vessels, holding nets, etc. Another figure is seated on a pallet beside two impressively-sized vessels, holding what appears to be a trophy head or a mask. Glyphs dot the upper portion of the vessel. Unfortunately the passage of time has made the scene depicted and the glyphs too incomplete to fully comprehend; however, it is certainly fun to ponder on. Size: 3.5" W x 8" H (8.9 cm x 20.3 cm)
