Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico and northern Central America, Mayan Territories, Late Classic, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A fascinating mold-made figure, depicting a standing man or woman with an elaborately painted and scarified face, their hands resting on the shoulders of a kneeling pregnant woman. Both wear carefully depicted costumes, their styles amplified by the application of blue and white pigment. Although it is tempting to the modern viewer to see affection in this piece, that is a rare subject in Mayan art - instead, this may represent a shaman healing a woman by laying hands upon her. Size: 4.95" W x 8.1" H (12.6 cm x 20.6 cm); 8.45" H (21.5 cm) on included custom stand.
