Description:

Pre-Columbian, Honduras, Maya, Ulua Valley, ca. 550 to 850 CE. A wonderful polychrome cylinder vessel with incredibly rich iconography. Black background with three underworld deities - including either God A, or The Old God, a god in Caiman form and another with saurian facial features - each with male deity or lord emerging from the top. Each lord has an elaborate headdress with conch shell and feathers. One could spend hours uncovering new design elements hidden in the scenery. Size: 6.375" W x 8" H (16.2 cm x 20.3 cm)

Provenance: private Southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s
