Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mayan territories, ca 500 to 900 CE. Yes, we do recognize this was once an exceptional and important vessel - now affected like all of us by the ravages of time. Still, a very large and showy piece of pottery art! A large circular bowl on rounded foot with its original lid with knobbed handle. Base decorated in polychrome colors of red, orange and black with remains of images of running deer separated by a large mat glyph. Lid is similarly decorated with large mat glyph on top of knob with much more of the original pigment still present. 13"D x 8-3/4"H. Provenance: Ex-Knox Artifacts, Scottsdale, AZ.
