Pre-Columbian, Maya culture, most likely Jaina Island, Ca 550 to 900 CE. Molded terracotta rattle in the form of a snake, its scaly body wrapped under its toothy grin, some form of attachment in its mouth, indicating this was once part of a larger object. Covered in yellow, white and blue pigment with small pea-sized rattles inside. Custom stand. Rattle itself measures 3-7/8"L. Provenance: Ex-Private California collection. The starting price is the lowest price at which the piece can sell.
