Pre-Columbian Mayan Territories Honduras / El Salvador Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A handbuilt terracotta bowl of a rounded form painted on the exterior with two elongated swimming figures occupying the central register in red and black on an orange ground, framed by an upper and lower black border. The interior features wonderful stylized glyphs surrounding an abstract petal-like motif, all painted in hues of red orange and black on a tawny ground with black and red bands framing the designs. Size: 6" W x 2.25" H (15.2 cm x 5.7 cm)
