Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, Honduras / El Salvador, Mayan Copador, ca. 550 to 900 CE. The exterior rim of this bowl features a register of five seated scribes holding their hands in a forward gesture. Elaborate headdresses and ear spools underscore their elite standing. Stylized turkeys with red tail feathers and necks strut around the interior of the bowl dangling worms from their beaks. A nice example with a red, fluted band on the corsetted lower end. Size: 7.375" W x 3.25" H (18.7 cm x 8.3 cm)

Provenance: Ex-Private LA County collection acquired in the 1980's
