Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mayan territories, ca. 600-900 CE. Conch shells were deemed necessary for ritual purposes among the ancients of the Americas. So if it was not possible to find conch shells, the indigenous of Peru and Mexico created them in ceramic, even going as far as to model the inner spiral, the most symbolic element of the shell, in the clay. At times these were merely used as amulets; however, this example does indeed produce a mighty sound. Drilled holes for suspension exist as well. 8-1/2"L x 5-1/4"W x 4-1/8"H
