Pre-Columbian, Mayan territories, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A striking pendant, finely carved from a beautiful piece of bright green stone with white inclusions, in the form of a frontal-facing head or maskette with a broad face and a huge, elaborate headdress that borders three sides. Bilaterally perforated at the temples for suspension. This pendant was made to be worn in the grave, and may have served as the central jewel in a headband like the pendant held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art: https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/319873.
