Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mayan Territories, Guatemala, Maya, Post-Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A hand-built brownware pottery cylinder incised with a register of glyphs along the upper body as well as a pair of large conjunctive glyphs on the main body. The vessel is defined by a flat base, rounded lower walls, a lightly-corseted body, a thick, flared rim, and a deep interior cavity. The surface is highly-burnished and is covered with lovely shades of brown pigment. Size: 5.375" W x 6.625" H (13.7 cm x 16.8 cm).

Provenance: private Southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s

  • Condition: Minor nicks to rim, base, and some glyphs, with one stable hairline fissure stemming from rim, and light fading to brown pigmentation, otherwise intact and very good. Light earthen deposits and nice manganese blooms throughout.
