Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central America, Honduras, Ulua Valley, Maya, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery bowl of an attractive form with a round but stable base, tall walls, and a thick rim surrounding the deep basin. Presented in hues of brown and red atop a light orange ground the exterior surfaces feature concentric rings along the base, diamond-shaped flowers filled with crosshatching as well as other vegetal motifs on the main body, and abstract geometric motifs just beneath the rim. Within the basin is a band of light brown pigment above a pair of concentric red rings, and the top of the rim alternates between brown and orange hues. Size: 6.5" Diameter x 3.75" H (16.5 cm x 9.5 cm)

  • Condition: Repair to sizable portion of wall on one side, with stabilization and overpainting to resulting fissure within basin. Abrasions and nicks to walls, base, rim, and basin, with light fading to original pigment. Nice root marks and earthen deposits within basin, and great preservation to painted motifs across exterior.
