Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central America, Guatemala, Soconusco region, Toltec civilization, ca. 900 to 1200 CE. A wonderful redware figural pottery jar, depicting a seated human figure - possibly a woman - with lightly defined limbs and a large, deeply carved face. She has almond-shaped eyes and mouth and a small nose as well as protruding ears with circular spool earrings. The top of her head is the opening for the vessel. A fine example of a Toltec effigy vessel. Size: 4.75" W x 8.55" H (12.1 cm x 21.7 cm)
