Description:

Pre-Columbian, Maya Territories, Equintlar, Guatemala, Late to Post Classic Maya period, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A large stone mace head rendered with a zoomorphic face with bent legs along the sides. The porous stone is carved in a classic doughnut form with a tapered central hole to mount the mace on a wooden shaft. The creature appears to be a frog with a slightly open mouth, bulging eyes, and skinny legs that are folded close to the body as if squatting. This hefty stone mace would be a lethal weapon to wield indeed! Size: 5.25" L x 4.9" W (13.3 cm x 12.4 cm)
