Description:

Pre-Columbian, Guatemala, Motagua Valley, Maya, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A hand-built pottery bowl with a carinated midsection, a pair of applied strap handles, a squat rim, and a deep interior cavity, all atop a trio of tab-shaped feet. The body displays a pair of relief panels depicting the elaborate headdress of Tlaloc, the Maya god of rain, with a fringed band and large incised ornaments beneath projecting several feathers. The handles are also adorned with abstract parabolic shapes, and vibrant red cinnabar has been rubbed into many of the incised striations. Size: 7.125" W x 5.6" H (18.1 cm x 14.2 cm).
