Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Maya, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A hand-built pottery stamp seal with a tab-shaped handle and a rectangular body with two rounded corners. The stamp face displays the stylized anthropomorphic head - perhaps a deity - wearing an elaborate headdress with curling horns near either lateral side. Size: 3.375" L x 2" W x 1" H (8.6 cm x 5.1 cm x 2.5 cm).

Provenance: private Southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s
