Pre-Columbian, Mexico and northern Central America, Maya Territories, Late Classic, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A delightful ceramic figure of a woman with an exaggeratedly large head atop a kneeling body. Her ornament suggests a person of high status, with a dramatic headdress, huge earrings, and a beaded necklace. This mysterious figure may have been a votive, prayed to at an altar, or placed in a cache as an offering. Size: 5.7" W x 8.1" H (14.5 cm x 20.6 cm)

Provenance: private Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA collection; ex-Minerva Gallery; ex-Benjamin Vega, California, USA, acquired in 2006 to 2007; ex-Gene and Virginia George, brought to the USA from 1961 to 1966
