Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Maya, Late Classic period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A hand-built pottery jar of a characteristically cylindrical form with a flat base, tall walls with several vertical ribs in low relief, a gently flared rim, and a deep interior cavity. A pair of ornately dressed lord figures are presented on either side of the red-and-orange body - one crouching and extending open hands, and the other standing while holding a scroll or scepter - and the rim is lined with a band of brown-painted pseudoglyphs. Size: 4.4" W x 5.3" H (11.2 cm x 13.5 cm)

  • Condition: Repaired from multiple large pieces, with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Minor abrasions and nicks to rim, body, and base, with fading to original pigmentation, and light encrustations. Light earthen deposits and great traces of original pigment throughout.
