Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Maya, Post Classic period, ca. 950 to 1200 CE. A wonderful pottery feline poison vessel in the form of a plump feline standing atop a quartet of nubbin legs. The creature exhibits incised striations across its body while it raises its head up to reveal ovoid eyes and perky ears. The Maya produced a pottery with a hard and shiny surface known as plumbate ware which was probably made by a very small number of artisans around the Mexico / Guatemala border who then exported them throughout wider Mesoamerica.   • Condition: Restoration to one ear, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Abrasions and fading to glaze pigment, otherwise in great condition. Nice feline form.

For shipments of oversize items, Artemis Gallery will assist the buyer in working with a third-party shipping provider. For shipments outside of the USA, customs and duties may apply upon entry into said country, and this fee, if any, is the buyer's responsibility.
