The creature exhibits incised striations across its body while it raises its head up to reveal ovoid eyes and perky ears. The Maya produced a pottery with a hard and shiny surface known as plumbate ware which was probably made by a very small number of artisans around the Mexico / Guatemala border who then exported them throughout wider Mesoamerica.
