Pre-Columbian, Mayan Territories, Guatemala, Maya Peten, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 850 CE. A rare and very fine Maya polychrome plate of a size not often found. Certainly not miniature but of a size that is 50% smaller, but no less important, than examples we usually see. Created in vibrant shades of orange, red and black with seated lord in the center with left hand extended presenting a beaked vessel and holding a smoking device in his right hand. Rim painted in black checkerboard panel. Size: 7.75" W (19.7 cm)
